The first annual Good Neighbour of the Year awards were held on Saturday 29th August, after the AGM, at the Lonny Wilsoncroft Community Centre, Stepping Lane, Derby.
There were 3 categories that people could nominate their friends and neighbours for -
1st the most helpful/friendliest shop assistant - this was won by Annie and Jane of the Old Rd Cafe, who received alot of nominations from their customers who all think they are great, friendly and go out of their way to give that extra special service.
2nd the Good Neighbour of the Year - this was won by Brian Bradbury of Uttoxeter Old Rd, who is always taking his friends and neighbours wherever they need to go, including bringing people up to the luncheon club on a Tuesday afternoon. Brian is always giving a helping hand to people who need it.
3rd The Barbara Smith Volunteer of the Year award was won by Joanne Lawton, who works tirelessly for the NZCA, managing one of the charity shops, working at fundraising, helping to run the community centre, in fact doing pretty much whatever she is asked to do. She is one of the greatest assets we have.
Well done to all those who won, and thank you to those people who nominated their friends and neighbours. There will be a full report on nominees in the New Zealand Community Times in October.
